Balancing the Rhythms of Life through the Senses

An Introduction to Ayurveda

What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an ancient way of healing using elemental theory, that follows the qualities of Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. It is a Sanskrit word derived from 2 words “Ayus” which means longevity and “Veda” which means knowledge of.

Ayurveda is a sister science to yoga. They both lead to a path of Self-realization. Yoga and Ayurveda arrived in India between 2500 and 600 bc.

It helps answer the question of how can I maintain health and vibrancy throughout my entire lifetime?

The Doshas (Vata (space/air), Pitta (fire/water), and Kapha (earth/water) are the 3 organizations that govern the unique psychophysiology of the individual’s Mind, Body, Spirit and the 5 Senses.

Health is the state of vibrant balance in which all the layers of one’s life are integrated and united.

Why you should attend

The talk will introduce the teachings of Ayurveda and how Conscious Awareness expresses itself through 20 qualities (Gunas), which are 10 pairs of opposite qualities. These qualities in turn become the 3 doshas that when in extreme fluctuation for too long are the cause of ailments and disease.

Choosing a healthy Ayurveda lifestyle is a way to create a biorhythm that establishes a balance between our internal and external environments. With appropriate Ayurvedic lifestyle daily choices, the doshas become balanced and help enhance one’s vibrancy of health. Proper food and lifestyle choices are the best medicine to heal the person and prevent oncoming diseases. This may be a new concept in western world, but ancient wisdom from Ayurveda.
